24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
As we meet with You today, we are reminded about this passage in Your Word. We see that we have a decision to make. A course of action to take. A path to walk. A choice to decide who we are, how we chose to live, and in whom we place our trust in.
In the first scenario, we see a choice to build a life/house on the promises of God and on His faithfulness by establishing a firm and sturdy foundation in Him; building and living a life that is founded upon The Solid Rock of Jesus Christ. When the storms of life come and the strong rains shower down, the solid rock and foundation does not move. It outlives the storm and is unwavering.
The second option is to place our trust and faith in “unbelief” and only in our own worldly knowledge and wisdom. Here, the option is to trust only as far as we can see and live only for what pleases us. This scenario lives a life without forgiveness, without repentance, without recognition of what occurred on The Cross on Calvary’s hill. When the raging storms of this life come and the flooding rains fall, this foundation is not sturdy and unfortunately sinks in the sand. It collapses beneath because this house is not rooted in Christ Jesus.
Our Messiah calls out to us not to live a live of perfection, but rather one of obedience. One that chooses to place our trust in Him and upon the Solid Rock of Jesus Christ.
